our story

Áo Dài Collective is a digital space/magazine for Vietnamese women's storytelling. Our masthead consists of a team of young Vietnamese women around the world. Here, we aim to create a safe space for Viet women to share stories, images, artworks in their own terms, in a world where not all stories are created equal. We hope that through our work, our readers will feel valued, connected, and know that their voices matter even if sometimes we often feel the opposite.

Áo Dài is the traditional garment of Vietnam, typically worn by women. However, it is not just a piece of attire. To Vietnamese women, it represents a history of liberation, struggle, empowerment, and obstacles overcome. The symbol of the áo dài and our missions are similar. Through storytelling and community building, we aim to share empower Viet women, just as what the áo dài represents. Áo Dài will serve as a vessel to empower and amplify Vietnamese female stories, connect our network of strong women, and inspire the women around us to raise their voices. We will publish around four to five seasonal issues per year, each focusing on a particular theme.

Our issues will center around Vietnamese women storytelling, providing oppurtunities for us to tell the stories that we never have a chance to share. At the core of our mission, we are providing our readers with accessible and free articles, a chance to submit their stories and artworks, and to connect with us via social media platforms. We seek to make our platform collaborative and accessible to as many people as possible, to continue inspiring our next generation of female leaders.
